May 3 – SC-228, Minimum Performance Standards for Uncrewed Aircraft Systems, met at RTCA in Washington, DC, to hear updates from each of the SC-228 working groups and received a usage update report from the FAA Government Authorized Representative. During the plenary, the committee approved a document (MOPS for UHF Airborne Radio Systems Supporting UAS C2 Link Systems) to enter Final Review and Comment (FRAC). May 6 – SC-186 w/WG-51, Automatic Dependent Surveillance-Broadcast (ADS-B), met virtually and in joint plenary to work through Final Review and Comment (FRAC)/Open Consultation (OC) comments on Change 1 to RTCA DO-317C/EUROCAE ED-194B. The group approved the document to exit FRAC/OC and will present it to the Program Management Committee at its June meeting for approval and publication.
May 9-10 – SC-227 w/WG-85, Standards of Navigation Performance, met in a joint plenary hosted by Boeing in Denver, Colorado. WG-1 and WG-2. The joint group has approved the comment resolutions for all comments received during OC/FRAC last year. However, since there are significant changes to the document, they have decided to initiate a second OC/FRAC on DO-283C and DO-236E this summer. WG-3 continues their work on their new standard updating the MOPS for the display of information on electronic displays which will allow for digitally derived aeronautical charts when it is complete. The next plenary session will be held in August hosted by Collins Aerospace in Cedar Rapids, Iowa.
May 14-16 – SC-230, Airborne Weather Detection Systems, met virtually to continue work on task “Perform Analysis and Test to Determine Susceptibility of Airborne Weather Radar Systems to Radio Frequency Interference” to include in a White Paper to be completed late this year.
May 14-16 – SC-235, Non-Rechargeable Lithium Batteries, met in plenary at RTCA Headquarters in Washington, DC. The group is working through resolution of items from DO-227B’s second Final Review and Comment (FRAC). The group is aiming for publication in late 2024
May 22 – SC-231, Terrain Awareness Warning System (TAWS), met in virtual plenary and approved its Terms of Reference for submission to the Program Management Committee (PMC). If approved by the PMC, the committee will officially come out of Active Monitor status to be an active committee.
May 22-23 – SC-213 w/WG-79, Enhanced Flight Vision Systems and Synthetic Vision Systems (EFVS/SVS), met jointly at EASA in Cologne, Germany to work through Final Review and Comment (FRAC)/Open Consultation (OC) comments for its Minimum Aviation System Performance Standards (MASPS) for Synthetic Vision Systems, Synthetic Vision Guidance Systems and Combined Vision Systems document. They approved the document to exit FRAC/OC and be presented to the Program Management Committee at its meeting in September for final approval and publication.
May 31 – SC-243 w/WG-128, Airborne Electronic Hardware (AEH) Development Assurance, met in a joint plenary at RTCA in Washington, D.C., to continue work on their internal report about potential topics to address in an update to DO-254/ED-80. The group will meet in working meetings between now and September 20, 2024 when they will hold a plenary to approve their internal report to the RTCA PMC.
